Nailsea & Backwell have had their Counties 1 Tribute Western North league  table confirmed ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Clifton Seconds have moved up from Counties 2 Tribute Gloucestershire South, while Old Redcliffians Development have secured promotion from Counties 2 Tribute Somerset.

Cheltenham North and Avonmouth both suffered relegation while Bridgwater & Albion have came down from Regional 2 Tribute South West and Burnham were promoted after finishing second with 85 points, two points ahead of the Ravens in fourth place.

Other teams include Barton Hill, Chipping Sodbury, Cinderford II, Cleve, Clevedon, Longlevens, Midsomer Norton and Old Bristolians.

This will be the second season at this level for Nailsea & Backwell and head coach Tony Hill said he is expecting the new season to be a challenge but believes his side can compete and produce another successful campaign.

“I think it will be really challenging as it was last year,” he said.

“Two of the strongest sides (Cinderford Development and Longlevens) are still in the league and Bridgewater have come down so it’s going to be competitive week in and week out.

“We missed promotion last year by two points so we’d like to think we will be competitive again this season with the experience and all our learnings from last season.

“We measure ourselves not by performance but how well we live up to our values.

“We look after each other on and off the pitch, we try and be an example for the young players and we give 100 per cent into everything we do.

“We believe results will come off the back of these principles.”

Nailsea & Backwell return to training on Tuesday, June 27, and have two pre-season fixtures lined up, one at Gordano on August 24 and another yet to be confirmed, ahead of new campaign starting in September.

Off the field Nailsea have strengthened their coaching staff with the appointment of former Gordano and Avonmouth coach Chris Hurd and will work alongside Hill and Yann Thomas.

While on it every player has signed up next season.

And Hill confirmed Bristol Bears under-18s player Jamie Wood and eight other members of the Colts section will be added into the senior section.

“It’s what we are about,” he added.

“Our junior section is the cornerstone of our club so to have that many lads coming through after a good season where they reached the Somerset Cup final, is very pleasing.

“Our goal is to always improve. So we will look at our points total and performances and look to improve on that and compete for promotion. That’s where we’d like to be.”
