A few members from Nailsea & District Coruqet Club helped Somerset's Association Croquet team perform well to finish second at the Inter-County Championship, held at Brighton and Eastbourne, recently.

Kriss Chambers, Marcus Evans and James Galpin, all of whom grew up in Nailsea and learned to play at the club, were part of the six-man team that won eight of their 10 matches, losing only to very strong teams from Berkshire and eventual winners Middlesex.

This was particularly impressive given Somerset only earned promotion from the second division last year.

The previous week Nailsea had prepared for the tournament by playing Cheltenham in the South West Premier League.

Cheltenham fielded a very strong team including two Great Britain internationals, and they went 2-0 ahead by lunchtime. However, Nailsea fought back strongly in the afternoon to level the match at 2-2, and nearly pulled off an upset victory before narrowly losing the final game for a final result of 3-2 to Cheltenham.
