Nailsea & Backwell claimed their ninth Counties 1 Tribute Western North win of the season against Cleve at West End Park last Saturday.

After a line break from Adam Grafton the ball was recycled quickly and, Ryan Barrow received the ball out wide to score.

The front row of Jack McCormick, Barrow and Ciaran Askew were on the front foot, allowing Charlie Cox to score with Alex Jones adding the extras.

The Ravens found themselves in the same position moments later as Cox went over again.

At 17-0 it appeared Nailsea & Backwell might kick on and get the bonus point but Cleve had other plans as Nathan Huntley scored two penalties just before half-time.

Cleve cut the scores to six points with a try of their own before Alex Jones kicked over a penalty to make it 20-11 with 10 minutes left.

However, Cleve scored again to set up a nervous last two minutes as the Ravens held on to win the game but coach Tony Hill was far from happy and said: “We conceded a lot of breakdown penalties which stopped us getting anything going.

“Thankfully we started well enough and defended the lead really well.”
