Yatwell under-15s were too strong for Winscombe in their most complete performance of the season after coming away with a 24-0 win last Sunday.

Both sides treated the spectators to some fantastic rugby.

From kick-off the early pressure was by Winscombe but Yatwell soaked up all they had to offer and were soon on the offensive themselves.

The first score of the game came after 18 minutes of fiercely contested rugby. A number of hard, straight ball carries from Yatwell took them within a few metres of the line and then quick ruck ball was moved wide to winger Mo Sayce who sped through a defensive gap for a try.

More great play by both sides followed with the next score coming in the final minute of the half.

A driving maul by Yatwell off the lineout was collapsed by Winscombe and a quick ball from the penalty to No.8 Ned Hill saw him charge at defence in typical fashion to make it 12-0 at the break in favour of Yatwell.

Into the second half and Yatwell were starting to play some really attractive rugby.

On a number of occasions the ball was taken into contact re-cycled, popped to a runner to drive back in before being recycled again and then moved wide with players passing out of the contact to supporting runners.

Winscombe’s defence was ferocious however and despite all their efforts it took over twenty minutes before Yatwell finally found a route through.

Quick ball off the back of a ruck saw a great little break down the blind by scrumhalf Jack Carter who committed two defenders before a lovely inside pop sent Hill over for his second.

The final try of the match was off the back of the typical type of aggressive play by Yatwell as they turned over a Winscombe scrum, moved the ball wide and Sayce scorched through the defence to add his second.

Charlie Hayett and Fergus McMeel’s long awaited returns from injury gave the three-quarter line a significant amount of additional fire power and the work in close quarters by the likes of Jonah Robinson, Ethan Beek, Seb Tarrent and Sam Bown was magnificent.
