After several hard battles Clevedon Lawn Tennis Club's annual club championships culminated across two Finals Days plus one day vintage and veteran tournaments.

The highlight of all the finals was the Men’s Singles which saw Sam Rogers face Woody Hewitson in a gripping encounter. Rogers grew up playing at the club but now lives in Australia and took advantage of extended leave to try to win the title that had so far eluded him; Hewitson is an up coming player, still only 18 but already a past winner of the event.

It was Rogers who started strongly with his aggressive game plan taking him to a 6-2, 5-1 lead but Hewitson was not ready to give up the fight, he started to pick off Rogers with well placed passing shots to level at one set a piece. The final set followed a similar pattern with Rogers racing in to a 4-1 lead but unable to get to the finish line Hewitson fought back again taking the match to a final set tiebreak, with both players making each other work hard it was Rogers who finally managed to strike the deciding blows triumphing 7-5 for a 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 victory which thrilled the watching crowd.
