Nailsea & Backwell overcame Burnham-on-Sea 17-13 in a hard-fought Counties 1 Tribute Western North encounter in perfect conditions at West End Park last Saturday.

Head coach Tony Hill gave 18-year-old Emile Swanson his debut at fly-half and he repaid the faith in the first 10 minutes as from a lineout he stepped past three defenders to go under the posts for a fine solo try, converted by Adam Grafton.

Burnham managed two penalties from Sam Havercroft after putting plenty of pressure on the Ravens with their big ball carrying forwards to make the half-time score 7-6.

In the second half, and playing up the slope, the Ravens got into their game with captain Luke Sharp and Charlie Cox making plenty of carrying metres.

After numerous penalties the hosts went over from prop Luke Caswell. Nailsea were keeping possession well and yet more penalties allowed Nailsea to go over from a well constructed maul.

Luke Caswell went over for his second try. At 17-6 up and the game over, for the second week in a row the Ravens conceded a late consolation try from Stefan Pierce.

This Saturday Nailsea take on Longlevens in Gloucester.
