A member from Nailsea & District Croquet Club came back to North Somerset with the Plate Trophy after taking part in the 17th Egyptian Open Golf Croquet International Championship recently.

Golf Croquet is popular in Egypt and is played to a very high standard, making this competition a prestigious event.

The event was hosted at the Gezira Sporting Club on the island of Zamalek in central Cairo, and play took place in temperatures at times up to 40 degrees.

James Galpin is one of the youth players at NDCC and has taken many trophies locally, he now regularly represents Nailsea at international events.

In Egypt, Galpin did well in the blocks stage of the competition and went through to the knockout stage, which was the main event.

However, Galpin was unfortunately beaten in the first round by the person, who became the losing finalist.

Galpin was then in the block stage for the Plate. He got through to the last 16 and then played brilliantly in the knockouts to take some silverware back to Nailsea.
