Nailsea & Backwell returned to winnings ways in the Counties 1 Tribute Western North with a 22-19 win at Cleve on Saturday.

After falling to their first first defeat of the campaign last time out against Cinderford seconds last time out the Ravens fell behind early on at The Hayfields through Freddie Flock going over for the game’s first try.

However, Nailsea & Backwell responded immediately when Charlie Cox’s break was finished by Mike Frohlich and converted by Alex Jones and after a good maul centre Joe Hall went over to the visitors in front.

Dave Thomas levelled the scores for the hosts but just before half-time Nailsea’s period of pressure, which saw Cleve’s Harry Owen yellow carded, saw Ryan Barrow go over a strong maul drive from five metres out.

Barrow added his second try before Charlie Bircham-Davies grabbed the Ravens’ bonus point try.

But in the last play of the game, a mix up in the Ravens communication meant that Dominic Callaghan went over as Cleve managed a losing bonus point try.

Next Saturday is Pink Ladies Day, where the club will raise money for Breast Cancer charity BUST as Nailsea & Backwell play Burnham.
