Yattwell under-15s responded from their opening day defeat against Clifton to beat Old Bristolians 45-34 to claim their first win of the season on Sunday.

Yattwell started really well and a combination of powerful straight running, quick and effective rucking and good use of the ball saw them have three tries on the board within the first 10 minutes.

The first saw prop Scott Waters go over in at the corner after a strong run through the defence. The second was a flanker Ned Hill special as he gathered a loose ball and bulldozed through the players in front of him to score near the posts.

And the third was straight from the re-start as fly-half Charlie Hayett’s footwork saw him swerve through the defenders to score under the posts.

However, poor defending let Old Bristolians straight through the gaps and they scored in the corner.

Yattwell headed straight back on the attack, and had a lot of ball as they drove forwards and recycled but all too often the play was taken back inside to the contact area and the Old Bristolians defence held firm.

Under pressure near their own line, Yattwell stole the ball and a fantastic break out this time saw ball shifted wide before the tackle to release winger Tyler Meekhums who tore down the pitch for a super try.

What happened next saw 10 minutes of great rugby as Old Bristolians definitely stepped up their game before another loose ball was scooped up by Hill and he barged his way clean through the defenders to add his second.

But Old Bristolians were having none of it and a quickly taken tap penalty caught Yattwell unawares and provided all the momentum Old Bristolians needed to get back up the pitch and score their second so the halftime to make it 33-10 in Yattwell's favour.

In the second half again Yattwell started really well.  A combination of go forward rugby and keeping the ball alive took them up in their host’s twenty-two where Hayett launch a crossfield kick that was brilliantly gathered by winger Alessandro Ciulli who then went over in the corner.

Three good tries followed by the hosts and suddenly the scoreline had a very different look and feel to it.

Then with a few minutes left on the clock a Yattwell attack finally earned a penalty in Old Bristolians twenty-two and Hayett’s quick thinking saw him tap and go through the gap in front of him for his second try of the game.

Old Bristolians were instantly back on the attack and scored a lovely try by the posts but that was the final play as time ran out for them.
