Clevedon swimming club welcomed a former Paralympic Gold Medalist swimmer, triathlete and BBC Strictly Come Dancing alumni to their pool recently.

Lauren Steadman visited to show support for Clevedon’s younger swimmers, in particular para-swimmer eight-year-old Rue Harvey and to inspire swimmers with her tales of Olympic and World championships.

Clevedon’s Improvers and Junior Skills squads benefitted from Steadman's guidance on foundational skills and also gave some coaching tips to both squads.

The swimmers, plus Clevedon’s young volunteer coaches, were delighted to get the chance to see and hold Steadman's gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics last year.

Steadman won the Women's PTS5's event after she finished in a time of one minute and 4:46 seconds to go with the silver medal she claimed in Rio in the PT4 event.

She was awarded an MBE for her services to triathlon in the 2022 New Year's Honours list.

“We were thrilled to welcome Lauren to the pool and we all benefited from hearing about her Team GB experiences," said head coach Pat Leaman.

"Thank you Lauren. This was the perfect start to the competition season for Team Clevedon.”
