Clevedon and District Road Club’s 10-mile time trial series has got underway on the Kenn-Yatton circuit.

Clevedon and District Road Club’s (CDRC) Tuesday evening 10-mile time trial series has got underway on the Kenn-Yatton circuit.

Time trials are races against the clock with riders setting off at one minute intervals. No drafting is allowed, it is an individual effort where pacing and aerodynamics are important. Simply ride as fast as you can and the quickest time wins.

Good conditions greeted the riders for the first race and the overall winner was Will Bjergfelt from the Neon Velo team with a time of 21.35. Will has ridden at professional level and has recently been selected as part of the GB para cycling squad as a tandem pilot.

It is great to see some young Clevedon riders coming through and posting some fantastic times. Twelve-year-old Tom Taylor riding his first-ever race posted 30.19 for a near 20mph average. There were also great times for Luke Tayler (32.12) and James Tayler (29.18). Marie Kestle riding for Pac Tri was first lady with a PB of 28.40.

A field of 27 riders started the next race with most riders posting better times than the previous week. Josh Griffiths from the Bristol South club took the win with 21.59.

Josh is one of the region’s best junior riders and has a bright future in the sport. He took a convincing win ahead of Andy Derrick on 23.50. Thirteen seconds was all that separated the next four riders.

Gareth Baines took third with 24.17, followed by Pete Wheddon on 24.19, Mark Perry 24.22 and Tommy Barlow 24.30.

There was a notable ride by Luke Tayler, who improved by a massive 56 seconds on his previous week’s time posting 31.16. Brother James also got better with a 28.45.

The club and competitors would like to thank local residents and motorists for their understanding during the races.
