Following the previous week’s abysmal performance at Potterne, Clevedon showed a great deal of resolve while easing to a lop-sided 112-run WEPL win over Lansdown at Dial Hill.

Put into bat by the visitors on a rather two-faced rain-affected wicket. Clevedon lost opener Masoor Khan and number three Connor Crane for a combined total of one.

But a gutsy stand of 61 between Greg Willows (41) and Harry Ellison (28) stemmed the flow of wickets.

Gloucestershire all-rounder Ryan Higgins ignored the vagaries of the track to make an eye-catching 69, but following his departure the Clevedon innings crumbled with the last four batsmen all failing to score.

A final total of 177 appeared to be well short of par and as the visitors reached 37-1 with few alarms the defending champions looked destined for another defeat.

Not so, for once Danny Williams had claimed both openers the Lansdown innings disintegrated with astonishing velocity.

Williams led the attack quite superbly while reeling off his 10 overs, seven of which were maidens, without a break to close with 2-14.

Higgins took 4-38 at the other end and skipper Jake Lintott brought proceedings to a close by picking up the empties with 3-10 from four mesmerising overs.

It was a remarkable collapse by the visitors, but Clevedon's attack made full use of the slightly damp conditions to set the seal on a most impressive victory.

The batting was generally poor, though, with no fewer than five ducks littering the scorecard and, not for the first time this term, the bowlers were asked to camouflage the shortcomings of the batsmen.

Only Willows, Ellison and Higgins made any meaningful contributions with the bat and the continuing lack of runs must be addressed if Clevedon are to feature anywhere near the top of the league table.

They head off to Bridgwater this Saturday for what is always a tough encounter.
