West Backwell Bowling Club commences its outdoor bowling season on April 17 and has organised a full programme of competitions, league and friendly matches, and social events occurring almost daily throughout the summer.

A mixed and inclusive club, they welcome people of all ages and abilities who are looking for a gentle sport where they will be able to socialise and exercise in the fresh air in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

West Backwell BC invite all those interested - individuals and families of all ages - to come along and join them at their Club Open Days on Saturday April 23 (10.30am-1pm) and Sunday April 24 (from 2pm).

You can meet and chat with trained and qualified coaches as you try the sport of bowls, with all equipment provided. Visitors are asked to bring a pair of comfortable flat-soled shoes to wear on the green.

There is a comfortable clubhouse, with bar, where social events are regularly held. Friday evening is Club Night, where you can meet and socialise with other members while playing bowls.

If there is enough interest, the club aims to provide a regular weekly coaching programme for adults and hopes to establish a bowls academy for junior members following the success of two under-18 members in being selected to represent Somerset in recent national competitions.

If you cannot get to the Open Days, there will be further sessions on Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29, in conjunction with Bowls England’s ‘Bowls Big Weekend’.

If you are interested and want more information about adult or junior coaching sessions, contact Brian Holloway on 07834 590999 or ring 0800 083 5198 and a member will be happy to discuss all aspects of the club.

New members joining for the first time, who have never been a member of another bowling club, shall be able to enjoy free membership in their first year.

The club website can be found at westbackwellbc.org.uk and the club is situated off the A370 road, in Backwell Recreation Ground, West Town Road, Backwell, BS48 3HQ.
