WIN: Tickets to see The Favourite at the Clevedon's Curzon
PUBLISHED: 18:00 02 January 2019
A story focusing on the behind-the-scenes politics between two cousins will be told in a new film.
The Favourite will see the pair jockey to be court favourites during the reign of Queen Anne in the early 18th century.
In 1708, Britain is at war with the French and Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) is in frail health due to gout.
She shows little interest in governing and instead prefers the more eccentric activities such as racing lobsters and playing with her rabbits.
Her confidant, adviser and secret lover Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz), the Duchess of Marlborough, effectively rules the country by the confidences she passes to the Queen.
Meanwhile, Abigail Hill (Emma Stone), Sarah’s impoverished younger cousin, arrives at court in search of employment.
She is first forced to do menial work as a scullery maid in the palace but, after seeing the Queen’s condition, starts to win the favour of Sarah and then the Queen.
The Times has teamed up with the Curzon to offer one lucky reader a pair of tickets to see the film.
This competition will close at 9am on Monday and usual Archant rules apply and the editor’s decision is final.
Curzon staff and volunteers are not eligible to enter and by entering you are agreeing to be contacted by Archant.
Thanks for your interest but this competition has now closed
