JUNIOR-SCHOOL children will be able to join older members of Backwell Youth Club when it re-opens after the summer holidays, due to its new-found success.

The Times reported in June the facility, at the recreation ground in Rodney Road, has seen record numbers of young people attending since it was taken over by youth organisation, Rainbow, best known for running a village preschool.

Chairman of the youth club’s management committee, Michael Pratt, said in the week leading up to the end of term, which used to be a quiet one at the club, more than 40 youths attended on Monday and more than 20 turned up on Thursday.

The club, from 7-9pm, will open again on September 6 on Mondays for year nine students and above and Thursdays will now cater for year six, as well as seven and eight.
