Portishead Youth Centre's garden is being given a makeover by volunteers.

Teenagers have launched a new project to develop Portishead Youth Centre’s garden.

Members of Portishead Youth Club joined forces with volunteers from Portishead in Bloom to launch the project which began with clearing the garden, preparing flowerbeds and the planting of new trees.

The project is the idea of 19-year-old Danielle Webb, who is a volunteer youth worker at the Harbour Road centre. She is also studying for a qualification in full-time youth work at Cardiff University.

Danielle said her studying in Wales led to the volunteer work in Portishead.

She said: “The garden project, which was prompted by my work at university, has been embraced by the youth club members.

“The young people are choosing what they want to do with the garden and are being supported by youth centre staff and members of Portishead in Bloom.

“If they do a good job the youth centre garden will almost certainly be included in the judging route for the South West in Bloom contest in July.”
