Volunteers behind the reformation of Yatton’s Royal British Legion are delighted by interest in the organisation from villagers.

The first meeting was held at the start of the month and saw more than 25 people attend.

The group has not been running for the past six years, but with the 100th anniversary of World War One’s conclusion imminent, villagers were keen for it to return.

Chairman Simon Reakes said: “The fact 27 people turned up to the very first meeting was pretty good and it is great to see such interest.”

The next few weeks will be very busy for the branch, with a carvery meal at the rugby club to be held on October 28. The centenary, 100-year anniversary of the RAF formation and launch of the Poppy Appeal will be marked.

Poppy sellers will be outside the Co-op again this year.

The legion will next meet on November 5, at the rugby club, at 7.30pm.

Tickets for the meal, priced £12, are available on 07880 840445.
