A French village has asked Yatton Parish Council about a potential twinning.

Pibrac, which is west of Toulouse, is a similar size to Yatton and Claverham and has a population of about 9,000 people.

Cllr Jonathan Edwards said Pibrac approached the council in 2015 but the idea went cold.

However, parish councillors have now voted to tell Pibrac officials they do want to link up in future.

Cllr Christopher Jackson said it is a ‘great idea’.

He added: “My only concern is we have to do this properly. It can’t have any hint of parish councillors going on jollies.

“If public funds were used to visit France then we’d put ourselves in a very awkward position.”

Cllr Edwards replied members would be expected to fund any trips.
