The man killed in a crash in Congresbury on the A370 has been named by his family.

The Times can reveal Hugh Swain was the 63-year-old pedestrian who died in the crash on Friday morning.

He lived in Mendip Gardens in Yatton with his wife Maggie.

Hugh’s sister Angela Walker said the news of her brother’s passing had come as a ‘tremendous shock’.

The accident happened at about 10am.

Police closed the A370 for most of the day while accident investigators surveyed the scene.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to help our enquiries.”

Anyone able to help the police with their investigation of the crash is asked to call the force’s collision investigators on 101, quoting reference CI/115/17.
