A sewer has ‘collapsed’ forcing a busy route to be closed.

Wessex Water and North Somerset Council shut Yatton High Street last night (Tuesday) after a fault was discovered with the sewer under the road close to Yatton Fish Bar.

The road could be closed for several days.

Car drivers are being rerouted through Stowey Road, while First's X2 bus service will also be disrupted.

Cllr Steve Bridger said the council is working hard with Wessex Water to get the 'collapsed' sewer fixed and prevent any problems for people accessing the village hall, which will act as a polling station in tomorrow's (Thursday's) General Election.

No businesses have been affected by the issue.
