A woman has been fined for misusing a blue badge after lying that her disabled husband was with her.

Kirsty Harper, from Yatton, was caught in Weston.

North Somerset Council said the 53-year-old parked her red Skoda Octavia at Walliscote Grove Road East car park in June.

She told a civil enforcement officer the badge was issued to her husband and claimed he was in the Town Hall but later admitted he was at home in Henley Park.

Magistrates at North Somerset Courthouse on November 30 fined her £100 and ordered her to pay £85 costs.

Deputy council leader Elfan Ap Rees hopes people will learn from Harper’s error and not commit similar offences.

He said: “Once again these cases demonstrate a range of misuse and excuses to try and justify their use.

“There is no justification (for it).

“Not only is it dishonest but is very unfair to genuine disabled badge holders who need to use the designated bays.”
