Workman stretchered off roof
PUBLISHED: 15:52 21 December 2010
AN INJURED workman had to be stretchered off a Portishead roof after a fall today (Tues).
The man, believed to be in his 20s, had been working on the roof of M&Co in the town’s High Street with a colleague when he fell at about 12.30pm, injuring his leg.
Because he could not simply be brought down a ladder, fire crews had to be called in to help rescue him.
One crew from Portishead attended and an aerial appliance came from Patchway.
Paramedics were also on scene along with Great Western Ambulance Service’s hazardous area response team, which is made up of medics that have been trained to deal with more extreme conditions.
The patient was put on a specialist stretcher and brought back down to ground level using the fire service’s aerial appliance.
By 1pm he was on his way to Bristol Royal Infirmary with a suspected broken leg.
