Workers could be spotted abseiling down the side of Clevedon Pier this week to carry out necessary work to the pier's 'splash zone'.

The area between high and low tide on the pier is battered with water daily and, as part of its long-term maintenance plan, the Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust is carrying out maintenance to the structure’s legs.

The trust has had to keep a close eye on the ‘splash zone’ and now, following a full survey, paint is being applied to the area as a ‘preventative measure’.

Much of the work is on the spring points where the curved rails are secured.

Centregreat specialists used ropes to abseil down and complete the work while dangling above the water.

The pier undergoes improvement works throughout the year to ensure the grade-I listed landmark remains open for years to come.
