A WOMAN was taken to hospital and a horse was killed on the M5 motorway last night (Sun) after a crash involving two horseboxes.
The accident, which happened on the M5 Southbound between junction 19 (Portishead) and junction 20 (Clevedon) saw crews from Avon Fire and Rescue Service rescue a woman from a car, who was then taken to hospital.
The incident saw two horseboxes collide at about 5.13pm, with one horsebox ending up on top of the other, killing one horse instantly and leaving two others with injuries.
It is understood the horse that died was travelling back from competing at the Horse of the Year show, being held at the NEC in Birmingham, when the accident happened.
Two lanes of the motorway were closed, resulting in heavy traffic.
