Some budding young photographers have won awards for their fine creations.

Portishead Rotary Club has been looking to encourage youngsters to get out and about and explore the surrounding area, while armed with their cameras.

But despite focussing on portishead generally, it was schoolchildren from Pill who stole the limelight.

Charley Saunders was named the winner of the senior category of District 1100 Young Photographer competition with runners-up, all from Pill’s St Katherine’s School.

Rotary President John Sleight was impressed with the youngsters’ submissions.

He said: “The standard of photography was just amazing, obviously a lot it time and patience was needed.”

Attention has already turned to next year’s competition.

Rotary co-ordinator Lance Allen said: “We look forward to next year with great anticipation and even more entries.”
