The winner of the Palme d’Or award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival will be shown at the Curzon cinema this week.

Set in North East England I, Daniel Blake (15) follows a 59-year-old joiner who is relying on state benefits after suffering an illness.

He meets single mother Katie and her two children – a family facing their own struggle as they must decide between moving to a homeless hostel in London or a flat 300 miles away.

I, Daniel Blake will be screened on Friday and will continue until November 10.

The Curzon will also show The Battle Of The Somme, complete with accompaniment by acclaimed pianist Stephen Horne, on November 13 to mark its 100th anniversary.
