THE first phase of a 22million project to renovate water mains between Barrow Gurney and Chelvey has been completed.

Work is being carried out by Bristol Water over the next three years to improve the quality of water which is supplied to homes in Backwell, Nailsea, Flax Bourton, Barrow Gurney and surrounding areas.

The first section of the newly renovated pipe in Chelvey Road between the treatment works and the junction with West Town Road is now in service and the road has been reopened.

Works continue on the next section of the project which follows the route of the A370 from Chelvey Road junction and then continues along Church Lane to the junction with Karen Drive.

The road is expected to be closed until December 21. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained during this time and a diversion route has been signposted.
