Walking the plank for charity

PIRATES will be walking the plank at Portishead’s open air pool as part of a huge fund-raising event for Children in Need on Friday.

Volunteers at the seafront attraction have organised a Pirates of the Caribbean themed evening that will see youngsters attempt an obstacle race, adults tackle a promenade assault course and hardy swimmers brave the icy water of the pool, which is now closed for the winter season and so no longer heated.

Organisers hope the evening event, which kicks off at 6pm, will raise thousands of pounds for the charity.

Children aged between four and 11 years old are invited to enter teams in the obstacle race which begins at 6pm outside the pool. There will be also face painting, a magician and a bouncy castle.

The sponsored adult assault course challenge, which starts at 7pm, also requires teams of four and will end with each team member being asked to swim a length of the pool.

Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams and for the best fancy dress costumes.

The biggest challenge of the evening will be to walk the plank at the pool for a 5 donation.

The evening will include a charity auction and live entertainment.

It’s not too late to join the fun and enter a team. To find out more call organiser Hazel, who runs Fit Time Health, on 07980 905296 or Roger Whitefield on 01275 818699.
