Villages’ plan to combat developer home proposals

ANOTHER village also threatened by developers’ plans for many new homes due to uncertainty over North Somerset’s housing figures is Claverham.

Gladman Homes Limited has submitted a planning application for up to 85 homes off Chestnut Drive, which the parish council has recommended North Somerset refuses.

Along with Yatton Parish Council it now wants to create a neighbourhood development plan (NDP), similar to that already agreed in Backwell, which will set out where, for example, new housing should take place in the area. The document will then have to be taken into consideration by North Somerset when deciding on new planning applications for the villages.

Teresa Moore, who is part of the steering group, said: “We know some houses will be built here in the future and we hope that by preparing an NDP we will be able to influence where they are built, how many are built and what they will look like.”
