REVELLERS in Portishead were attacked with metal bars after an altercation in a town pub.

Three people were left needing hospital treatment after the vicious attack in High Street, which saw two men and one woman assaulted at about 1.15am on March 7.

It followed an earlier incident, during the evening of March 6, when one of the victims, drinking with her family in The Plough Inn pub, suffered minor injuries during an argument with two other females.

The victim’s party remained in the pub until about 1am but when they left, two men in the group were struck with what is believed to have been metal bars.

They were taken to Frenchay Hospital where a 30-year-old man received stitches to a head wound and the other, aged 50, was treated for a suspected broken jaw.

A female friend was also assaulted by two women and was taken to hospital with bruising.

The two men reported to have used the metal bars are described as white men, both about 6ft tall.

One was described as being in his late 30s or early 40s, of stocky, muscular build with a shaven head and wearing a light top. The other was in his early 20s, of medium build and was wearing a light top with dark coat.

Police have described the female suspects as white women, one aged about 20 years, 5ft 6ins tall, of medium build with dark, dyed blonde hair, dressed casually with jeans.

The second woman was described as 38-39 years, around 5ft 8ins tall, of broad build with reddish brown hair.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

They believe several cars passed through the High Street while the attack was taking place and detectives investigating the incident are keen to track down the drivers, who they believe could have valuable information.

They would also like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack.
