A recycling scheme has been launched in Portishead.

Environmental group Turn The Tide (TTT) has started a crisp packet recycling programme, which the organisation hopes will lead to less littering.

Collection points are at Waitrose and Parish Wharf Leisure Centre, in Harbour Road, plus Moose Hall Chiropractic, in High Street.

A bin has also been provided for youngsters at Portishead Youth Centre.

Funds raised from the scheme will support children with motor diseases.

A TTT spokesman said: “There are four collection boxes dotted around the town where you can recycle your empty crisp packets in association with Walkers.

“Just shake the crumbs into a bin, save a bag of packets up and drop off at your nearest collection point.

“The packets shredded into small plastic pieces and then moulded into cool new plastic items like park benches, play equipment or similar.”
