The race to provide super-fast broadband to several villages in North Somerset is heating up as a second company has stepped up to offer the service to residents in Walton-in-Gordano.

Keynsham-based TrueSpeed have proposed they will be able to provide services to the village in the next 12-18 months.

Community engagement manager Andy Moore gave a presentation to Walton-in-Gordano Parish Council at a meeting on Monday night, in which he claimed the company would be in a good position to give the £500,000 project the green light if 30 per cent of villagers signed up for the service, and would also provide a free connection to the village hall.

The other potential provider for the village, Gigaclear, is the main contractor for the Connecting Devon and Somerset rural broadband programme and has stated it is still confident it can bring superfast broadband to the area by 2020.
