Matthew Paul, Brad Alder, Harry Paul and Jack Paul from Powertek Services were made aware of complaints posted on the local Facebook community page post and vowed to take action.

The group took to the banks of the rhyne which runs alongside the company with ropes to drag out the six shopping carts.

A spokesman from the company said they believe the trolleys had been left in the water for over a year.

They said: "We noticed people were fed up.

"Various emails had been sent to local supermarkets but no one had come forward to remove them.

"Staff members saw the facebook thread and took it upon themselves to remove the trolleys.

"We're happy the rhyne is now clean and looking much more pleasant for our local community."
