Portishead Open Air Pool has been presented with a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for the second year running after receiving rave reviews from its customers.

The accolade, which honours excellence in hospitality, is given to establishments that consistently receive outstanding reviews on the popular TripAdvisor website.

Pool volunteer Barbara Thatcher said: “Winning the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence is a true source of pride for the entire team at Portishead Open Air Pool and we’d like to thank all of our past guests who took the time to complete a review on TripAdvisor.”

When selecting certificate winners, TripAdvisor takes into account review ratings as well as the volume of reviews and how recent they are.

Marc Charron, president of TripAdvisor for business, said: “The Certificate of Excellence award gives top performing establishments around the world the recognition they deserve, based on feedback from those who matter most.”

Portishead Open Air Pool in Esplanade Road is run by a charitable trust and relies on numerous volunteers to keep it running as a successful, popular facility.

For its 2015 season, which began in April, the 53-year-old seafront attraction now boasts a new public address and security system.

The PA system was funded by an anonymous supporter and has been installed this month by Bristol company, Total Security Design, which was involved in the original makeover of the pool in 2009 which was filmed for TV.

Company director Andy Duncan was so impressed by the volunteers’ work getting the pool ready for the new season, he wanted to continue to support the facility by installing the CCTV system pro-bono while setting up the PA system.

The pool’s operations manager and volunteer Andy Thatcher said: “We are delighted with the new system, which will improve security and communications and allow us to organise events more professionally.”
