Train services have been cancelled after a vehicle struck a bridge between Nailsea & Backwell Railway Station and Yatton this morning (Thursday).

The incident has meant many train services have been delayed or cancelled.

Great Western Railway (GWR) says passengers can expect disruption until into the afternoon, as the bridge must be checked to ensure it is safe.

The incident took place at around 9am and Cross Country and Great Western Railway services are affected.

Disruption is expected until at least 6pm.

A GWR spokesman said: “Arrangements have been made for Great Western Railway rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys.

“CrossCountry are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice.

“South West Trains are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice.”
