A town council has agreed to cancel most of its August meetings, with a view to engaging with the public at community events instead.

Portishead Town Council has cancelled all but one of its meetings in August after councillors unanimously agreed the motion at the Folk Hall on June 19.

The town council will still hold a planning and regulatory committee meeting to ensure any planning applications submitted for Portishead receive appropriate scrutiny.

The authority, which also agreed last week to commence work on a neighbourhood development plan, will use the time to 'work on projects' and carry out 'community engagement at local events'.

The council has also agreed to have stalls at Portishead Raft Race on July 7 and Portishead Summer Show from July 27-28, where councillors will talk to people on its plans for the town.

The town council can call an extraordinary meeting if required.
