Haggis was dished up and tartan draped the walls of a village hall on Saturday evening.

A Burns Night celebration took place in Tickenham’s hall in Clevedon Road as guests dressed in their finest tartan and enjoyed Scottish dancing to the sounds of bagpipes.

Revellers managed to raise £981 for St Quiricus & St Julietta Church, in Church Lane, and Southmead Hospital’s cancer unit.

Burns Night is widely renowned as a commemoration of the Scottish poet Robert Burns’ birthday, with a feast served up which showcases the best of traditional Highlands cuisine.

Event organiser Vena Prater said: “It was a fantastic evening, we managed to raise a huge amount of money which will go a long way.

“This was our fifth event and we had 72 people in the hall, I want to thank everyone who helped us and who donated vital money.”
