Thieves smashed their way into a Clevedon shop during an early-hours raid this morning (Thursday).

The Co-operative store in Old Street was targeted at about 3.15am.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman told the Times a ‘quantity of cigarettes’ were stolen from the premises before a car was used as a getaway vehicle.

There have been several similar raids at shops in Clevedon, Congresbury and Yatton in recent months, although it is not known if they are connected.

A police investigation of the Old Street shop is now taking place.

Anyone with information, or was in the area around the time of the raid, is asked to call the Somerset Investigations Team on 101 and quote reference number 5216233423.
