WAR medals and a wedding ring were just some of the items taken by burglars in a callous day-light raid on a family’s home in Yatton.

Rachael Osborne was shocked to find cupboards and drawers in her High Street home turned upside down after returning from an hour’s trip to Clevedon on September 30.

On closer look, the mother found every sentimental item gone, including her wedding ring, grandfather’s war medals, father’s policing awards and 7,000 in cash.

Now, the devastated nurse has called on culprits to hand back the items, claiming they have little worth except to the family.

The 41-year-old said: “The burglars have taken every item close to our family, they have not left a stone unturned.

“Counting through the items gone I cannot believe how much they have taken and how little I have left.

“All I have is my mother’s wedding ring I wear round my neck and three rings on my fingers, that’s it.

“These items are so important to me, so, please, if anyone has them please bring them back.”

Mrs Osborne, who works for a nursing agency, had left her home for Clevedon for just 60 minutes when the burglary took place.

The culprits used a crowbar to open a back door to the terraced house and gain access to the items, which were believed to have been taken away in a larger travel bag.

Mrs Osborne added: “It’s not how much the items are worth because we can get that back on insurance, it’s purely the sentimental value.

“Our money for a round-the-world holiday was taken, but it’s not that I’m most bothered about.”

Of the items stolen, a police whistle and medal belonging to Mrs Osborne’s father John Stone were taken as well as more than 20 items of jewellery from her mother Joan.

Medals belonging to her grandfather for service in both world wars were also taken.

Anyone with information on the stolen items is urged to call police on 0845 4567000.
