THE company which operates a Long Ashton quarry will soon apply to extend the amount of time it has left for working the reserves at the site.

Currently, Tarmac only has permission to extract material from Durnford Quarry until December 31 this year, after which it would have been required to restore the site, which is adjacent to the Ashton Court Estate.

However, a planning application will soon by submitted to request this time limit be extended for another 10 years until 2022.

The company says this is due to the fact the economic downturn has resulted in a slump in the sales of aggregates.
