MORE than 60 swimmers took part in a sponsored challenge to raise money for a North Somerset children’s charity.

The event was held at Strode Leisure Centre in Clevedon and saw teams competing to swim the most lengths in an allotted time.

Swimmers ranging in age from seven to 65 took part to collect cash for Springboard Opportunity Group, which has dedicated centres in Clevedon and Weston to provide play sessions and support to children under five with additional needs.

The winning team was the Slummy Mummies, who swam 101 lengths in 45 minutes, despite being one team member short.

The charity expects to have raised £2,500 from the swimathon.

Senior coordinator Yvonne Kingston said: “We would like to thank all the swimmers for taking part and their sponsors for supporting them.”
