New cake competition promises to be the icing on the cake for summer show.
The Great British Bake Off may be a popular TV show but this month the bake off everyone is talking about locally is much closer to home.
The qualifying round of the Great Portishead Bake Off invites amateur bakers to present one 25cm (8") decorated cake of their own design, based on the theme of summer. Cakes must be shown on plates with the exhibitor's name on the bottom of the plate and placed in polythene bags, not cling wrap.
Exhibitors then need to take their decorated cake to The Poacher in Portishead High Street on Saturday July 13 at 2pm.
Four exhibitors will then qualify for the final round in the main show.
At the Portishead Summer Show on July 27 at 2pm, Sam Cox, from Heaven on the Hill, will decorate a two tier cake at a special stand in the refreshment marquee.
The four entrants to qualify for the final will then be asked to replicate the cake with all materials provided.
The winning exhibitor will receive a Portishead Bake Off single tiered cake stand which has been made by local potter, artist Olwyn KW.
Schedules, which include entry forms, are available from local shops priced £1 or can be downloaded at
Entry forms for this class must be submitted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org by 6pm on July 12.
