Successful report for teen home

A HOME for vulnerable teenagers in Portishead has received a positive Ofsted report.
Ferngate, in Beach Road West, is run by social care provider Northerncare. It opened in 2009 to care for girls aged 11-17 who may have emotional or behavioural problems and can accommodate up to six young people at any one time.
An Ofsted inspection carried out in April found the overall effectiveness of the children’s home to be outstanding.
Thomas Webber who carried out the inspection, reported that previous inspections had identified a sense of chaos at the home, but since the appointment of the present registered manager, young people have benefited from a home where there are clear structures and boundaries in place.
The quality of care, leadership and management was also rated outstanding, as was the equality and diversity practice and the service for keeping the young people safe and feeling safe.
Mr Webber said that outcomes for children and young people at Ferngate were good and the home is now fully integrated within the community, with the young people actively making a positive contribution to their home and the wider community.
