A CLEVEDON-BASED brass band triumphed at its first ever contest.
The Lions Brass 4 Youth group took part in the Gloucestershire Brass Band Association competition earlier this month in Ross-on-Wye, competing against four other bands.
After playing for 20 minutes, not only did the group, made up of nine to 18-year-olds, receive a gold standard for its performance, it also won the cup for the whole section.
Under their conductor, Dave Hollister, the youngsters had rehearsed and practiced for several weeks before the competition, in which they played music including March from The Great Escape and Candyman.
