Fledgling sailors have enjoyed a busy few weeks on the water, completing courses.

Eight people have completed sailing training with Portishead Yacht and Sailing Club after an intense period of training with some of the group's experienced members.

The candidates took part in lake and sea sailing, plus theory sessions off the water before receiving their certificates.

Dave Herbert, of the sailing club, said: "All the candidates enjoyed the course and are keen to learn more and put their new-found skills to the test."

The club's more seasoned members took part in their second long distance race of the summer on Saturday, as 18 dinghies sailed from Portishead to Pill and back.

Mr Herbert added: "The wind was flukey in the River Avon, but once clear of the river a fresh south-westerly wind made for an exhilarating sail back to Portishead."
