A number of old industrial units in Clevedon could be demolished to be replaced with a brand new building.

Plans have been submitted to North Somerset Council to knock down the existing business units at 1-5 Neads Court in Knowles Road, which will be replaced with five business units and four domestic garages, as well as five first-floor flats, as part of a new two-storey building.

The design and access statement for the plans, which were submitted to North Somerset Council on January 13, says: “The buildings fronting Knowles Road are single-storey, utilitarian structures from a previous age, they are a poor interface with the surrounding residential properties, and as they are visible from Old Church Road and Salthouse Field, they do not make a positive contribution to the approach to the seafront.

“This proposal will significantly improve the visual amenity on an important approach to the seafront, whilst retaining employment and offering the possibility of living or working accommodation in a pleasant location.”

The consultation stage on the Neads Court proposals will run until February 12.
