Station revamp

SCHOOL children from Backwell have added a splash of colour to Nailsea and Backwell Railway Station.

Artwork created by youngsters from West Leigh Infant School has been installed on platform one and flower planters are also due to be added later this spring.

The work has been organised by the Severnside Community Rail Partnership, First Great Western and North Somerset Council to make the station safer and more welcoming for passengers.

Additional work has included painting the shelters and staircase, repairing the platform surface, tidying up the car park and embankment and cutting back the foliage at the station exit.

Much of the work has been carried out under the Probation Service community pay back scheme and May Gurney assisted with the removal of all the cut foliage.

David Turner, director of development and environment at North Somerset Council, said: “This initiative is an excellent example of what can be achieved working together and pooling resources with the community and service providers.
