Let there be light: Backwell church going green with Solar panels

A church in Backwell is set to go green by installing solar panels on its roof to make it 'fit for the 21st century'.
St Andrew’s Church has submitted plans to have an array of panels installed on the grade-I listed building.
The proposals will see 22 panels housed along the length of the south aisle roof, concealed from view at ground level by the parapit.
The project has taken year to get to this stage as the church and designers want to make sure that the panels secured are as unobtrusive as possible.
Churchwarden Anita Heappey said: “All the time as a church we want to show the way forward. Being ecologically minded is part of that,
“The church will never be warm but we need to make it fit for the 21st Century and make sure it is not a blot on the landscape or a drain on resources.”
Its 30m tower dates back to the 15th century.
North Somerset Council will ultimately decide whether to grant planning permission for the church.
