An art club’s annual exhibition has raised £2,000 for two charities.

St Andrew’s Art Group held a show of some of its best pieces earlier in the year and recently was in a position to hand over two cheques worth £1,000 to deserving causes.

The first went to Backwell’s St Andrew’s Church and was presented by chairman Penny Plas.

And the second pot of money went to Nailsea District Leg Club.

A spokesman for the art club thanked the public for supporting the summer show.

They said: “These cheques will make a huge difference to the running of the church and leg club.

“Art group members are justifiably proud of this achievement and wish to thank everyone who supports the group’s fundraising efforts.

“We couldn’t do it without you.”

The art club only has 18 members but it has managed to raise a large amount of money for charities ever since its inception in 1986.
