PLANS to build hundreds of houses in Yatton and Claverham are ‘bonkers’ according to a campaign group which has vowed to fight back against the developers.

No Moor Development (NMD) has formed following a large influx of planning applications for homes in the two villages.

Its cause was helped by Yatton Parish Council unanimously recommending rejection of a proposed 170-home development by Hallam Land Management (HLM).

Robert Jenner, vice chairman of its planning committee, criticised HLM for its tactics after putting in a second ‘identical’ application to build off Arnolds Way.

HLM first sought outline planning permission in September, but the application has been held up by a major transport survey because HLM proposes making the Arnolds Way roundabout significantly larger. Cllr Jenner said drawings of the proposed roundabout layout looked like ‘Spaghetti Junction’.

Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting, Cllr Jenner said: “We are overwhelmed by the number of applications that are pouring in.

“It’s exactly the same application but Hallam just hope North Somerset Council takes longer than 13 weeks (to make a decision).”

If that happened, HLM could launch an appeal and get an independent planning inspector to rule whether it can build the new homes – reducing the chance for villagers, and potentially North Somerset Council, to fight the application.

By HLM submitting a second ‘identical’ application, the hundreds of objections put forward for the first application may not count, so NMD is urging people to re-register their concerns.

NMD member Steve Bridger, said: “Some new homes will be built in the village, but the 849 we’re potentially facing from seven different developers is a bonkers situation and the residents of Yatton and Claverham are fighting back.”

James Adams, of Stowey Road, agreed saying the situation in Yatton is now ‘utterly ridiculous’.

NMD has launched a website and Facebook page to help its fight.
